Light food – is a food with a reduced fat content and reduced calorie content per 100g compared to maintenance food. The following content is intended to compare the composition of the food and provide information to create a ranking of light foods tailored to a given dog. Part 1 contains a comparison from April 2024 – 15 dry and wet light foods available for sale – the list includes foods that declare a reduced fat content in the name or description of the food. In the comparison you will find food brands: Brit, Acana, Farmina, Royal Canin, John Dog, 4Vets, My Lovely Dog, Wolf of Wilderness, Terra Canis, Dogs Plate. What kind of dog is light food for? To choose light dog food, you should be guided by several variables. Recommendations for the introduction of light foods may appear in dogs in which: Sterilization/castration was performed, Have been diagnosed with being overweight or obese, They are at risk of becoming overweight, obese, In the case of e.g. hyperlipidemia – the diet complements the therapy, In the case of other disease entities, e.g. pancreatic insufficiency (additionally check the protein content) – according to the recommendations of the veterinarian.
