ABOUT THE CALCULATOR
Energy balance is the state of maintaining the body’s energy balance. The correct energy balance for healthy cats is 0, i.e. the amount of energy consumed is equal to the amount of energy supplied. The calculator will help you determine the energy requirements for your cat, based on the feline feeding guidelines (FEDIAF 2020, 2021, NRC, 2006). Remember that the demand changes – on the portal you will find information on how to assess the cat’s figure, whether it is correct. Also remember that cats have different activities and this significantly affects the demand. Outdoor cats may have higher energy needs.
USE
Determining the energy and basic nutrient requirements is important to ensure that your cat receives the right amount and quality of food. A cat’s energy requirements depend on many variables, such m.in as the dog’s life stage, age, height, or activity, as well as whether it is a free-roaming cat or a cat that stays only in the dog.
Your cat’s energy requirements can fluctuate significantly, so you should adjust the feed dose accordingly taking into account your cat’s condition and body shape (e.g. Body Condition Score). It is worth remembering that the most extreme deviations affect 5% of the pet population.
Remember! The feeder shows the daily energy requirement in a simplified way. When observing your cat and its condition, modify the amount of food given accordingly to prevent your cat from becoming overweight or underweight.
