I very often come across owners talking about dogs with food allergies. It is worth knowing the definitions – what we call food allergy and intolerance. Food allergy – a negative reaction to food with an immunological background, which may occur immediately or with a delay: – immediate hypersensitivity – up to a few hours after eating food – delayed – after 1-2 days Food intolerance – negative reactions to food, e.g. lactose intolerance, food poisoning, unpredictable reaction to the first contact with food, including anaphylactic reactions.
